About

Hello and welcome to Tumbleweed Tidings!  I am so pleased that you stopped by to see what’s new in my corner of the world.

My name is Diane Wicks and I live with my husband Jim in the tumbleweed infested, high desert area of Southeastern Washington.  We reside in Kennewick, which, along with Pasco and Richland, make up the Tri Cities area that sits along the beautiful Columbia River. I was born in Washington and grew up in the idyllic city of Walla Walla.  Other than living in Hawaii for Jim’s work from 2001-2008, Washington has always been my home.

Although I am not formally educated in Interior Design, I have always had a love of all things relating to the home.  Anything to do with cooking, entertaining, or decorating are where my passions lie, and our house has always been our sanctuary away from often hectic lives.  While living in Hawaii, I was able to hone my decorating skills when I opened my own home décor store.  This led to opportunities for interior design consultations, merchandising and real estate staging.  Once back in Washington, I used our new home as a laboratory of sorts, as I went about making it comfortable for our family, friends and.….just us!   I presently work part time for a local builder and interior designer in her retail store, which allows me to keep my hand in the newest trends in furniture, lighting and accessories, without the headaches of business ownership. It’s the perfect scenario!

Jim and I have been married for almost 19 years, and have a blended family of five grown and accomplished children, and nine amazing grandchildren who are truly our pride and greatest joys.  Jim spent 24 years in the United States Navy, and has since used his degrees in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering for management and consulting positions both here at the Hanford Nuclear Facility and in Hawaii at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.  He hopes to fully retire within the next couple of years, bringing us to a new and exciting chapter of our lives.

We enjoy travel, especially if it involves being on the water, and attending musical and theatrical productions.  We recently purchased a Northern Idaho bungalow getaway, where we spend about a third of our time.  Watch for a bungalow tour coming soon!  Most of all, we love any time we can spend with family and friends.

Our church involvement and family also play an important role in our lives.  Jim attends a weekly men’s breakfast/Bible study, and I am an ordained Deacon and the Wedding Coordinator.  Look for some fun wedding ideas in future blog posts!

It is my hope that you will be inspired, entertained, and find some helpful nuggets to take away from this humble blog.  I’m so glad you are here!

Good Tidings,

~Diane
