You know how people say “It’s the little things that count?” Well, I think there is a lot of truth in that saying. Last week, I purchased something that literally changed my life…or at least the life of my foil and baggie drawer:) Today I’m sharing a quick little post about a simple project that made a nice difference in our kitchen organization. Enjoy!

It all started while I was watching a video featuring a kitchen makeover, and the woman shared her zip lock bag organizer. As soon as I saw it, I knew that it would work for our drawer. I went to Amazon and found this one: Amazon.com – Duke’s Bamboo Ziplock Bag Organizer – Food Plastic Ziploc Bag Organizer for Drawer or Wall – Compartments for Snack, Sandwich, Quart, Gallon Bags – Secure Shutter Locks – Includes Wooden Pen Box.

The storage box is made of bamboo and is excellent quality. It has openings for snack, sandwich, quart and gallon bags, and fit perfectly in the drawer. You just open the lid, take your bags out of their original boxes, and put them in the appropriate spot. Close the lid and you are in business! This organizer takes up less space than the boxes, and still leaves room in the drawer for foil and cling wrap. It also came with a little box to hold Sharpie pens to label items, which I keep handy at the back of the drawer.

As for those small white boxes and packages you see at the back of the drawer? They contain, of all things, shower caps. This is an idea that I stole from my neighbor; using shower caps to cover bowls of food. The elastic holds the shower cap securely in place around the bowl, making it a great way to keep food in the refrigerator or transport to a potluck.

In this day and age, we are all encouraged to do our part to reduce waste and lessen our negative impact to the environment. In our household, we have significantly reduced the amount of plastic storage bags we use. But the truth is, sometimes they are the best solution, and for those occasions, we use them guilt free. And now for the “after!”

This little purchase was a real game changer for this kitchen drawer, and every time I open it, it makes me smile. Sometimes, it really is the little things.

Good tidings,

Diane
